Schools out! Summer can mean different things to different people. While some focus on rest and relaxation, others prioritize addressing ongoing issues and executing delayed projects such as network upgrades and implementing new cloud services. Others are just looking for simple to use new features from their existing solutions.

The engineering team at Nile has been hard at work building new features aimed at helping everyone achieve their goals. Enhanced network visibility and security result in greater efficiency, allowing you more time to focus on what matters most to you.

Let’s take a look at what June had in store:

1. Differentiated Admin Access and Privileges

We’ve created tiered visibility and admin privileges for network and helpdesk staff. Users with a “Helpdesk” role can now view items in the Nile Portal, but cannot perform setup functions. They can also authorize the onboarding of new devices to access the network and perform diagnostics tests. Users with the “Network” admin role have full access to all management capabilities.

This provides flexibility for customers to differentiate who can perform what functions for security purposes, as well as minimize potential missteps. Helpdesk staff or new network admins can be assigned support roles with view-only privileges, ensuring no accidental changes to settings.

2. Automated Service Interruption Notifications

When the Nile Access Service is active and a new SSID is created or an existing SSID is edited, a pop-up notification is displayed to indicate a brief network interruption in the Nile Portal.

The notification ensures everyone is informed about the reasons behind any brief network interruptions prior to making the change.

3. SSID Password Visibility

Customers have asked for the ability to view SSID passwords in cleartext. We’ve added an icon that looks like an eye that can be pressed that allows you to see the password as you’re entering it for the first time.

The outcome is the ability to avoid setting a password incorrectly, as well as if you need to revisit what was entered.

4. Minimizing Alert Fatigue

Previously, alerts were raised during maintenance window periods. We’ve changed this to suppress repeated outage alerts during scheduled maintenance windows.

This was done to avoid alert fatigue caused by non actionable management and operations workflows.

Make sure to look for next month’s update. We’re working on some new and interesting SSO capabilities and access point insights that make your life easier.
