This past month was interesting from an engagement standpoint. As our user community is growing you’re asking for ways to improve the Nile experience to save you time. In fact, the majority of feature improvements being asked for were all geared towards simple and easy to use operational enhancements. And much to my delight, no one asked for old school on-prem Wi-Fi gateways, large high-performance NAC servers or AI that requires manual intervention.

The idea of Nile’s simple as-a-Service model for wired and wireless LAN deployments with performance guarantees is starting to spring to life. Customers are recognizing the value of our next-gen wired and wireless offering and cloud microservices model and are actively thinking of new features that they weren’t getting from previous vendors.

Here’s what’s new.

  • Support for multiple RADIUS domains

You can now define multiple RADIUS servers within the Nile portal to support users connecting to your network from different domains. For instance, a university or college can add Eduroam to ease the ability for visitors to connect using their institution’s login credentials and your local server to support your institution’s staff, students and professors.

Another example is if your organization is acquiring another, you can easily support all of the users from the incoming organization if they are visiting until you transition to the same name@organization convention, active directory, etc.

  • Tackling Alert Fatigue

Anyone that manages a network is familiar with alerts and alert fatigue. While alerts can be life-savers they can also be noise at the same time if not implemented correctly and the notifications lack contextual depth. We’ve improved both the categorization of alerts and our notifications.

  • Categorization – Ensured consistency across how we’re showing alerts, as well as how you’ll see alerts in email and webhook messages
  • Notifications – You’ll see consistency across Alert Type, Alert Message, Start Time, Duration, Alert Status, and Location (if applicable and more
  • The status of the Nile Cloud Service

You can now view if there were any instances where you believe the Nile Cloud Service was unreachable. While we’ll always inform you if we’re taking the Cloud Service offline for any reason, there may be instances where a service provider link was unreachable or the cloud instance provider experienced an issue.

  • Enhanced DHCP, DNS and RADIUS monitoring

In addition to monitoring, we’ve expanded what you’ll also see. Alerts will now include IP and site context, as well as where we see the outage originating. For instance, alerts specific to unreachability from specific sites. We’ve also created a precedent for any “server down” alerts.

  • More granular device details

We previously shared information tied to the devices of “top users’ and then you were required to shift to another page to see more information. No more. We’ve added live links so that a simple click gets you to the device information you’d like to investigate. Faster troubleshooting, faster resolution of issues.
